Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger talks to Jack Wilshere during training at London Colney on Friday.

The Gunners are in the middle of a significant January overhaul of their squad, with Alexis Sanchez's pending move to Manchester United expected to be followed by a host of new arrivals.

Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season but there was the theory that United may try and accelerate that deal too in order to wrap business up.

When asked if Ozil will stay at the Emirates in February, Wenger said: "Yes, of course".

German ace Mesut Ozil is Wenger's main man to play behind the striker and Wilshere can also be employed there. He was here at the age of ten and I believe as well he's not only been here for a long time but he has some leadership qualities.

"He has a football brain".

Wilshere hadn't been offered a new deal until recently due to his well publicised issues with injuries, but the England midfielder has returned to fitness and form in the last month prompting a new deal to be offered.

"He is much more patient and mature", said the Frenchman. He is completely focussed on Arsenal.

And Wenger believes that, with the way things are headed, it's impossible to rule out seeing a player on a £1m-a-week deal in the future.

"Today he can analyse better: is he fit or not?" That is important. He can be one of the leaders in the future. "Nobody questions his love and commitment for the club". Wenger said. "He has a lot of prevention to do, and he does that religiously now".

Furthermore, while Arsenal had been confident of agreeing a fee of £44m for the 20-year-old, Bordeaux are playing hardball after growing annoyed with the public interest shown in him.

Speaking ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday, Wenger told a press conference: "Maybe Ozil will be back". "After that we have to find a financial agreement with Jack that is good for him".
