Leonard's played in just one of the Spurs' last five games.

He played 17-or-fewer minutes in his first three games and has been held out of all back-to-backs since returning to the floor, topping the 30-minute mark just once in nine contests played. It has apparently not gotten better as the season continues.

Leonard suffered the injury during training camp and didn't make his season debut until December 12th.

However, news broke that Leonard would not be ready for the season opener with an injury that was later termed as tendinopathy in his right quadriceps. "But if we're going to err, we're going to do it on the side of health and being wise", coach Gregg Popovich said Thursday after the team's shootaround in NY.

"He's given it a shot".

The All-Star forward is averaging 16.2 points this season for the Spurs, who play the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. He wants to play badly.

The injury has already limited the two-time Defensive Player of the Year to nine games of action this season and will add more DNP's to his stat line for the foreseeable future.

"So if we're going to err, I'm going to do it on the conservative side and just decided we're going to go back to the rehab and the strength and all that, try to get him more whole before we get him back out on the court". Therefore, do not expect the organization to rush Leonard back in any circumstance during the regular season.

The Spurs, 29-16 and 5-5 in their last 10 games, are now third in the Western Conference, a half game ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ariza has started all 40 of his appearances with Houston this season, and Green has played in 10 games with the team as a reserve.
