Police tell The Journal News Valeree Schwab was with another teenage boy when the two got into a fight with a group of at least six teenagers inside the coffee shop across from Iona College Wednesday afternoon.

The teen's surrender according to the nydailynews comes 24 hours after the killing of 16 year old teen girl, Valaree Megan Schwab - who was stabbed twice with a steak knife in the left side of her torso.

The suspect fled on foot, and the victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where she succumbed to her wounds. New Rochelle school district officials say the victim had not been in school that day.

Authorities say they have identified the suspect and are actively trying to locate her.

Investigators say Brown and Schwab were among about a half dozen teens in the altercation, which began at the McDonald's on North Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It is not known what the fight was about, but the victim is believed to have used or attempted to use pepper spray at some point, Schaller said.

Grief counselors will be at the school Thursday. "This is a devastating loss for our school community, and our deepest condolences go out to Valaree's family and friends", the statement continued.

Anyone with information about the attacker should call the police department at 914-654-2270. "You have to watch who you hang around with out there".
