Sydney man in custody after body found

A man is in custody after a body was found near a Sydney train station.

An "edged weapon" was seized during the arrest, and the man now in custody is at Kogarah Police Station is said to be assisting with police inquiries.

Inspector David Ralph from St George Local Area Command said at a press conference this morning police are still investigating and are "not sure on the motive" behind the incident.

They called triple-0, and the ambulance was the first to arrive on the scene.

He suffered severe lacerations to his body and is understood to be 60 years old, although he has not yet been identified.

Police have set up a large crime scene near Hurstville Railway Station. No charges have been laid.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Kogarah Police Station or crime stoppers.
