Pokemon Go is launching a new monthly worldwide event.

The first Community Day is scheduled for January 20th and the special Pokémon will be Pikachu, which will boast the exclusive event move Surf.

Just recently, Niantic disappointed many Pokemon GO fans by announcing plans to end support for certain iPhones and iPads that are "not capable of upgrading to iOS 11", as it could leave many players of the popular mobile augmented reality game out of the fun when their devices are phased out at some point in the future.

Asia-Pacific Region: 12:00 PM - 3 PM JST.

Please note that each region gets only one window for the Community Day event, so be sure to pay attention to how these times line up with your local timezone. The idea of this event is that players will all crowd together in communal spaces, in a short time window, and everyone will remember the community spirit of Pokemon from its opening weeks. Plus, some of these Community Day Pokemon could add some much needed variety to gyms and the Pokemon Go metagame, which often stagnates in between Pokemon releases. It seems pretty cool, and hopefully will be big enough in major cities to bring back the initial vibe of Pokemon GO, where loads of people would just be out milling about and very obviously playing the game.
