In the complaint made before the Kerala police, the woman mentioned that the two arrested accused tortured her at a religious centre in Paravur, where her husband took her to forcibly convert her to Islam.

Police officers said that the men were found guilty of helping Muhammad Riyas, the key accused in the case.

A Kerala woman, who was about to be taken to Syria, allegedly after a forced conversion, had a narrow escape from captivity in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. She accused the state police of not showing an interest in investigating the case.

Fayaz and Siyad, both natives of North Paravur near here, were arrested yesterday following investigations based on a complaint by the 25-year-old woman, who was rescued from Saudi Arabia and brought home last year by her family.

According to AV George, the Superintendent of Police of Ernakulam (rural), the two arrested accused, identified as Fawaz Jamal and Mohamed Siyad have been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Indian Penal Code.

The victim alleged that she met Riyaz a native of Thalassery in Bengaluru when she attended college in 2014.

A similar case of alleged "love jihad" created an uproar in Kerala recently after Ashokan, father of Homeo student Hadiya from Kottayam district, alleged that her husband Shafin Jahan lured her and converted her to Islam in order to recruit her to ISIS.

"We are examining whether the arrested have some connection with the Islamic State", the SP said.

She has also alleged that her marriage was registered using forged documents. The police are now ascertaining claims by the lady that the witnesses to the marriage were members of the Popular Front of India.

The woman alleged in her petition that in November 2015, Riyas forced her to have sexual intercourse with him. She also said that she got to know that Riyaz was planning on selling her off as a sex slave in Syria. She said her husband behaved properly for some time and took her to Saudi on tourist visa in August past year and confined her in a room from where she escaped.
