The Continental seems promising, though, because, unlike some carefully negotiated TV versions of film franchises, the premise doesn't seem too dramatically limited from what was appealing about the films in the first place. The ultra-violent film saw Wick brought back into the assassin game following a series of unfortunate and traumatizing events.

"You can expect to see him at some point", Starz President of original programming Carmi Zlotnik said.

A series adaptation of the John Wick franchise had been eyed for some time, with Stahelski teasing months ago that there was strong interest and that Lionsgate was already in early development on the project.

Though Keanu Reeves (who plays Wick on the big screen) is signed on as a producer, the television series won't focus on his character. The assassin friendly hotel is a major player in the John Wick universe, with several establishments across the world.

Collins expands the universe in the series by focusing on the Continental Hotel and those who find refuge under its roof. Chris Collins, best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, The Wire and Amazon's The Man in the High Castle will act as showrunner on the series.

The team behind The Continental will include other veterans from the John Wick franchise including screenwriter Derek Kolstad and star Keanu Reeves, who will serve as an executive producer.

Stahelski, will direct the premiere episode of The Continental and said, "They've got a really good structure". Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick motion pictures, would direct the pilot.

Speaking to open the Starz panels at the Television Critics Assn. press tour on Friday, network Chief Executive Chris Albrecht said "The Continental" and the movies will exist side by side.
