The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday conducted raids on senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's son Karti's properties in Delhi and Chennai in connection with the INX Media money laundering case.

"They (ED officials) searched and found nothing but since they had to justify themselves they took papers of a statement made by government in Parliament, few years back", said Chidambaram reacting to the raids that were carried out in connection with a money laundering probe in the Aircel- Maxis case. "The ED has no jurisdiction to investigate under Prevention of Money Laundering Act".

The law enforcement agency has alleged that Karti received money from Peter and Indrani Mukerjea owned INX media so as to avoid the tax probe against it.

The raids were conducted in connection with INX media money laundering case filed against Karti Chidambaram by ED in May previous year. The CBI has said it has also recovered vouchers of Rs 10 lakh which were allegedly paid for the services.

Speaking to media on ED raids, the senior Congress leader said that "There is no FIR concerning a scheduled crime by CBI or any agency". The FIPB approval was granted in "hundreds of cases", he had said.

"Not surprised by the malicious vendetta being unleashed against senior Congress leaders including P Chidambaram & his son".

Karti Chidambaram's lawyer Arun Natarajan was reported to have said the nothing was found or seized in the raids. "Everyday PM Modi and his government use ED & CBI as captive puppets to seek revenge from the opposition".

Also ED did not find anything at Karti's homes in Delhi and Chennai.

In October past year, during investigation ED found that FIPB approval given by P Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case was beyond his mandate. The law enforcement agency, in its investigation, also found that the amount for FIPB approval was wrongly projected to hide the facts. Karti Chidambaram is accused of facilitating bribes in the Aircel-Maxis transaction.
