He started his career with Blackburn Rovers before spells with Bolton Wanderers, Crewe Alexandra, Barnsley, Hull City, Wrexham, Chester and Ipswich Town.

Ireland global and fan-favourite Jonathan Walters could well be looking at a massive step down in the January transfer window following reports linking him with a move to the very bottom of the Championship.

Sunderland have lacked a serious aerial presence up top this season and, as such, have struggled to make the ball stick when ploughing forward.

According to The Sun, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is now looking to add the Republic of Ireland worldwide to his squad at the Stadium of Light.

With virtually no money to spend, Coleman wants to take Walters on loan with a view to signing him permanently at the end of the season.

Sunderland look a likely destination for him.

Despite his age, the Burnley striker is precisely the type of character that Chris Coleman will be looking to bring in as he bids to not only improve the options in his squad, but also the type of person that we have around the place, and Walters fits the bill perfectly. Sunderland may have to act fast as there could be more interest in him.

We'll watch on from afar to see how this one progresses, but here's hoping things move along smoothly and we'll have the services of a dependable, hard-working centre forward to call upon sooner rather than later.
