Dancing On Ice will be replacing their voice over man Matt Chapman with sports commentator Sam Matterface after Matt quit the series in the wake of backlash from viewers.

Matt confirmed he had made a decision to "leave the rink and return to the turf" after viewers had a mixed-response to his style of commentating on Sunday night, prompting him to tell ITV that 'perhaps it wasn't for him after all'. Many said he sounded too much like he was commentating on horse racing.

Showbiz reporter Richard Arnold told presenters Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway how ITV bosses were scrambling to find a replacement for the show.

And while Matt himself initially thanked viewers for their comments, adding he planned to "win the rest round" in the following nine weeks, it seems the correspondent did a bit of a U-Turn after sensationally quitting following the first episode.

Insiders hinted that Matt, who has previously worked on the Racing Post, struggled with diary clashes, forcing him to pull out.

"It was always going to be a big gig following Tony who did eight series before he died in 2013".

They'd better get their skates on! Sam also works for ITV Sport and hosts bet365.

'Dancing On Ice' continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
