Now, after nearly two decades, the character, created by Robert E. Howard as a sword-and-sandals pulp magazine hero in the 1930s, is returning to Marvel, the publisher and Conan Properties International announced Friday.

"We're thrilled to be working with Marvel and look forward to the new adventures in store for Conan", said Fredrik Malmberg, President of Conan Properties International.

The adventures began in titles like the premiere flagship series, Conan the Barbarian; the adult-oriented black-and-white magazines, Savage Tales and The Savage Sword of Conan; and the engaging '90s book, King Conan.

"A legendary lineup of awesome artists brought Conan to life in the pages of Marvel comics", C.B. Cebulski, the recently minted editor-in-chief of Marvel, said in comments provided by the publisher.

In a brief release, Marvel announced that it would publish Conan "comic book titles, collections [and] reprints" beginning January 2019, with artwork that featured the character alongside Thor and Wolverine. "As the most well-known and creative publisher in the industry, we think Marvel is a great fit for our stories".

Conan the Barbarian is bopping his way back to his original comics cave at Marvel! In 2019, the character will finally make his return to Marvel after 19 years with the other publishers.

Marvel published Conan comic books from 1970-2000, when the license transferred to Dark Horse Comics. Additionally, the Fox/Disney deal is likely to shift Dark Horse's many 20th Century Fox licenses - including Aliens, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Avatar - to the Disney-owned Marvel at some point in the future.
