Boat with 40 school students on board capsizes near Maharashtra's Dahanu

A boat carrying around 40 children capsized off Dahanu in Palghar district on Saturday.

Out of the 40 onboard the boat, 32 have been safely pulled out of the water, while a search and rescue operation is underway to save others.

The tragic incident took place 2 nautical miles from the sea-shore in Dahanu.

The students of KL Ponda school, all from Class 11 and Class 12, in Dahanu were at the beach for a picnic.

Help has also been sought from Indian Coast Guard to assist in the rescue operations, he said. Search and rescue operations have been launched with Navy and Coast Guard teams being sent to the area.

District Collector Prashant Narnaware told PTI that the incident occurred on Saturday morning off the Dahanu coast.

As per reports, the boat was overcrowded when it tilted and capsized.
