Student found dead at Sierra Vista elementary school

At about 10 p.m., a sheriff's deputy was driving south on State Route 92, south of Sierra Vista, when he noticed a vehicle that appeared to be following him, Capas said.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a boy was found dead after a shooting incident at a Cochise County school on Tuesday, Jan. 9. No other students were injured.

The school, Coronado Elementary School, is part of Palominas Elementary School District in Hereford.

A southern Arizona elementary school was placed on lockdown after authorities received reports of an active shooter. According to neighboring Sierra Vista Unified School District, the incident involved a male student who shot himself to death. After clearing the school of any other possible threats, (none found), the school is now in a reunification process at Sierra Springs Church, 3574 Paseo Santa Clara, in Sierra Vista.

The SVUSD said it is offering counseling and support for the Palominas district.
