CES 2018 is only a few weeks away, but some product announcements are arriving even before it hits the showroom floor.

Like LG, Samsung's new upgraded line of Notebook 9 devices focus on battery life, too.

Samsung is introducing three Notebook 9 2018 models, consisting of the updated 13.3-inch and a 15-inch notebooks, plus a new 13-inch foldable Notebook 9 Pen 2-in-1, which comes with an S Pen tucked into a slot next to the touchpad. The material, which is lightweight compared to single aluminum, makes the aesthetics more pleasant and high-end compared to the plastic-like material that Samsung used before. The screen itself does not detach from the keyboard like other 2-in-1s.

This device has an inbuilt S Pen.

It has a fine 0.7mm nib and is able to detect up to 4,000 levels of pressure, can support Windows Ink and the Galaxy Smartphones' Air Command and it is a build-in battery-free. It also boasts a convenient tilt detection feature for rendering natural handwriting and and nuanced drawing. The S Pen launches shortcuts to apps like Samsung Notes and Autodesk Sketchbook when removed.

In terms of specifications, the Notebook 9 Pen uses a 13.3-inch Samsung RealViewTouch FHD display. They both are powered by Intel Core i7 processors and feature 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. The first is Samsung's Notebook 9 Pen, and perhaps the most interesting of the trio.

System builders have been releasing new and refreshed laptop models built around Intel's recently launched 8th Generation Core processor family for mobile (Kaby Lake Refresh or Kaby Lake-R, not to be confused with Coffee Lake on the desktop).

Added security and convenience – both devices come with Windows Hello built-in for secure authentication through the fingerprint sensor without having to type in a password, while the Notebook 9 Pen also features an IR front-facing camera for facial recognition login through Windows Hello. They have not divulged much details about this yet, but they are only committing to a vague notion of "always-on power" capability. It is also expected to support fast charging. The devices have an internal storage of 1 TB SSD and up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

With three different versions offering a 13.3” to a 15” screen and enhanced graphics capabilities, the Notebook 9 (2018) weighs up to 2.84 pounds and measures 15.4mm, one of the lightest and thinnest notebook devices in its class. It features Intel HD Graphics.
