The highly anticipated epic period drama, Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has been mired in controversy since the start of its production.

Both Joshi and Bhansali had appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on information and technology and the Petitions Committee of the Lok Sabha after MPs raised the issue of the film hurting sentiments of the Rajput community and demanded a ban on its release.

According to Deccan Chronicle, Central Board of Film Certification has requested the government to bring forward historians who are well versed with the story of Queen Padmavati, and in particular it's ballad by 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, in which Bhansali has based his film from.

As per latest reports, the makers of the film are planning to announce the release date soon after the Gujarat elections.
