Light snow is expected to develop Friday evening in northern counties before it slides south, covering much of the Chicago area.

Tonight: Winds will begin to decrease tonight, and so will the temperatures! Northwesterly winds between 10-15 miles per hour will create wind chills in the teens through the afternoon.

It will be very windy throughout, with gales in exposure, making it feel bitterly cold and a maximum temperature of 8 °C. Lows will fall into the teens with a forecast low near 17° in Lafayette.

Friday's weather: A cold start, with weather warnings for snow and ice in place

Highs tomorrow are going to be slightly higher compared to today and will reach the lower 30s.

Far northern IN is under a Winter Storm WATCH with lake effect bands pushing totals IN some areas up to 1 foot, though that will not affect us here unless you're planning on travelling towards Lake Michigan this weekend.

North of 85, if things were to come together perfectly so that the period of coldest air and highest moisture were to overlap, it is possible to see a transition to snow. Some of our models are hinting at a final push of moisture that swings through overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Our next best chance for more snow will arrive early next week, Monday and Tuesday. As a result, we have placed the highest snow totals (2"-4") within our northeast counties.
