There's no secret that Elon Musk is an innovator when it comes to technology and space travel. With the combination of Tesla and SpaceX, Musk has contributed to major advances in both the future of electric cars and in our ability to explore the universe.

With 27 rockets and the ability to launch almost three times the amount of payload into orbit SpaceX is hoping its new rocket will become the gold standard for sending equipment and humans into space. In a freaky intersection of the two unrelated companies, Elon Musk's electric auto, the powerful Tesla Roadster, is set to be launched into orbit around Mars in the upcoming expedition from SpaceX.

A supercar like the Tesla Roadster floating around in outer space is an interesting way in which Tesla and SpaceX could be so significant that they potentially outlive humanity.

"The destination is the orbit of Mars".

The billionaire entrepreneur tweeted his plans last week and it was uncertain whether he was joking.

With a capacity of 54 tons, it can put into orbit loads twice as heavy as the launcher to the Delta IV Heavy, the american company United Launch Alliance, which is now the most powerful in service. SpaceX hopes to hoist the Falcon Heavy on the shooting range historic pad 39A, at the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral in Florida, by the end of December to complete a test ignition of its 27 engines in preparation for a launch in January.

This is two times the load the current biggest rocket in operation, the Delta IV Heavy, can propel.

"Just bear in mind that there is a good chance this monster rocket blows up, so I wouldn't put anything of irreplaceable sentimental value on it".

Ahead of SpaceX's thirteenth cargo delivery mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA, scheduled for December 12, CEO Elon Musk shared photographs of both the Falcon 9 rocket and the Dragon spacecraft that will be used on the mission.
