The day before it was announced that John was rushed to the hospital to have an emergency appendectomy.

Rock singer-songwriter John Mayer on Tuesday went into emergency surgery for removal of his appendix, forcing his band featuring former members of the Grateful Dead to postpone a show. John is in "good spirits" following the surgery, according to a spokesperson.

The ailment was apparently unexpected, as 11 hours before Dead & Company posted their statement, Mayer was tweeting about, of all things, copyediting.

Mayer tweeted fans, "Thank you everyone for the well wishes". The Dec. 7 show had been booked for the Amway Center in Orlando, while the Dec. 8 was to take place at BB&T Center in Sunrise. Those are in addition to the previously announced postponement of a show originally set for December 5 in New Orleans.

Ticketholders can rest assured: tickets for these shows will be honored for the rescheduled dates.

The 40-year-old was also scheduled to perform at the Masonic in San Francisco on Tuesday, December 12th during radio station Alice@97.3's holiday concert event "Alice In Winterland". "Still got it", Mayer wrote, captioning a photo of himself in a hospital gown.
