"Shashi Kapoor expired at 5.20 pm on December 4 at Kokilaben Hospital, here", Dr Ram Narain, executive director of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, told news agency IANS in a message.

Veteran actor, Shashi Kapoor who recently passed away, left a huge void in the film industry.

As a star, Shashi Kapoor appeared in over 150 movies including English films such as The Householder and Shakespeare-Wallah.

Kapoor acted in more than 100 Hindi films and was also a key theater personality.

Among his memorable films were "Deewar", "Kabhie Kabhie", "Namak Halal" and "Kaala Pathar". Nearly all the B-Town stars had come to pay their last respects to the iconic actor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Kapoor's versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in the theatre, which he promoted with great passion.

Sanjay Dutt, Naseeruddin Shah, Anil Kapoor and Aamir Khan were amongst those present at the residence for a prayer meet earlier in the day.

Located in the Dhaki Nalbani area in the interiors of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, the Kapoor ancestral home was built by Dewan Basheswarnath Singh Kapoor (father of Prithviraj Kapoor) in the early 20th century, who lived in the city. He started acting in films as a child artiste in the late '40s. Spotted at the meet were Shashi Kapoor's sons Kunal and Karan, daughter Sanjana, nephew Randhir and others.

"Peshawarites have great love and respect for the Kapoor family and Bollywood actors belonging to the ancient city", CHC secretary Shakeel Waheedullah told Press Trust of India.
