Former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford Jr. has been fired for misconduct by Morgan Stanley after facing a human resources investigation into allegations of misconduct, a company spokeswoman confirmed.

HuffPost reported Thursday that a woman alleged that Ford forcibly grabbed her one evening in Manhattan, engaging in harassment and intimidation. Ford's ouster for alleged "misconduct" with an unidentified woman was announced Thursday via an email from the NY brokerage, where Ford, a near victor in the 2006 U.S. Senate contest in Tennessee, has worked in recent years.

In her account, the woman, who is not identified in the story, said she and Ford were meeting for business reasons when the incident took place.

The announcement of Ford's termination from Morgan Stanley said, "He has been terminated for conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies", The Huffington Post website published accounts of its interviews with the woman whose accusations against Ford, who is married and has two children, resulted in his current predicament. Ford only desisted after the woman emailed him explicitly warning him to knock it off, it states.

Ford served in the House for 10 years until 2006 - taking over from his father, longtime lawmaker Harold Ford Sr. - when he mounted a failed bid for a Senate seat.

Ford was hired by Morgan Stanley in 2011 as a senior client relationship manager.

He is alson one of the most visible members MSNBC's team of contributors - particularly on the network's "Morning Joe".
