Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is refusing to concede defeat in the Premier League title race even though his team are now 15 points adrift of Manchester City in top spot.

Once again Jose Mourinho took the best of Wenger's coaching and Arsenal.

Wenger, speaking ahead of Arsenal's final Europa League group game at home to BATE Borisov, was asked about Mourinho's comments and said he was genuinely expecting to go into the United game without his club-record signing.

"I am not here to especially blame people", Wenger added.

Mourinho sarcastically praised the Gunners' medical department after the match and returned to the same subject this week by suggesting reports that David Silva might be forced to miss the Manchester derby could be filed under L for Lacazette.

"That's what you want, the players have produced a quality performance".

"Matic is injured but will play for sure, I'm telling the truth but he will play for sure", Mourinho declared towards the end of a lengthy injury update.

"I'm always [honest] I thought he wouldn't play". Leave him at home? He had a test on Friday morning and we were not sure he would play.

Lacazette, who cost £52m from Lyon in the summer, is not likely to start tomorrow as Wenger plays fringe men in cup games.

The plan was when they [Arsenal] had the ball, we all had to defend, starting with the attacking players, and when we have the ball, we had to try to counter-attack fast and try to score goals, which we did.

"If I am a player, and I think with what we produced, we have a huge potential, and we lose the game, we can not accept that".

Defender Shkodran Mustafi would not have been involved even if he had not been forced off early on in the defeat to United. But I have to say that my players deserve all the great words. "Carrick no chance", Mourinho told a news conference when assessing his walking wounded after the 2-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday. We go to direct knockout now.
