Apple to Launch Cheaper 9.7-Inch iPad in 2018

Apple is reportedly planning to release a new affordable 9.7-inch iPad in 2018 for around $259, according to a DigiTimes report. The tech giant will reportedly announce a new version of the regular-sized iPad at a price point of $259 (roughly Rs. 16,700).

Apple, back in March, launched the 9.7-inch iPad priced at $329 (Approximately Rs 21,200), which now is the cheapest full-sized iPad available in the market. This affordable iPad will retain the iPad 2017's 9.7-inch form factor but will use relatively "less-able' components, i.e. this budget iPad won't be as powerful as the cheapest iPad on sale today".

Currently, we don't know if this supposed 9.7-inch iPad will be a replacement for the 2017 9.7-inch iPad, or will it just be a newer variant with watered down specifications, with a similar design and an improved camera sensor. While the standard 9.7-inch iPad looks to get cheaper in 2018, Apple's iPad Pro may get costlier if recent reports suggesting they'll come with slimmer bezels and Face ID facial recognition are true.

Earlier this year, Apple released their latest iPad at a very reduced cost of $329.

Production will likely be outsourced to Compal Electronics with PCB orders going to Compeq and Unitech Printed Circuit Board. Apple is said to be looking to target affordable Android tablets by offering users a cheaper option to switch to iOS.

The news of cheapest iPad may sound like a great news, but it is still not confirmed whether from either Apple or manufacturer and is based on a speculative leak. Stay tuned to Gadgets360 for regular updates on the launch.
